Information available to YEN.com.gh suggests that the police administration has requested for the release of Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, to assist with investigations.
Graphic.com.gh reports that the request, dated March 19, 2019, was directed to the Speaker of Parliament.
It revealed that a police officer, Detective Sergeant George Ofori, had reported an alleged assault against Agyapong.
YEN.com.gh understands it relates to a demonstration by students of University of Education at Winneba, during which the police officer was reportedly assaulted.
The request explained that the police administration was mindful of the privileges and immunities of MPs under the 1992 Constitution, as well as the Standing Orders of Parliament.
“In the circumstances, we respectfully crave your indulgence to release Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to report to the Central Regional Police Commander to assist with investigations into the alleged assault,” it stated.
