Teacher who gives out 80% of his salary wins KSh 100m global prize

- Tabichi has touched very many lives after he started donating his pay to keep poor learners at school

- During his trip to Dubai, Tabichi confessed that he was super excited since it was the first time he boarded a plane

A teacher, Peter Mokaya Tabichi, has gone into the books of history as the first African tutor to win the coveted Global Teacher Award.

The Mathematics and Physics teacher at Keriko Secondary School in Nakuru County pocketed the KSh 100 million prize in a colorful ceremony held in Dubai.

In a separate story, TUKO.co.ke reported that, Tabichi gained fame and also touched many souls after it emerged that he donated 80% of his pay to less fortunate learners.

In a statement, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amina Mohamed congratulated Tabichi and termed him a selflessness teacher with a rare spirit of helping the needy.

"Congratulations @petertabichi for winning the Global Teacher Prize 2019. It’s quite encouraging to have witnessed your selfless accomplishment. I’m certain you will go on to achieve great things. You have made us proud," Amina tweeted.

Tabichi is a staunch Catholic who subscribes to the doctrines of Franciscan brothers, where he draws his zeal to help the less fortunate children whose parents lack the ability to pay for their school fees.
