Accra Mayor advocates for ‘the Rwandan approach’ to rid Ghana of filth

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, has called for a drastic approach to rid the nation’s capital of filth.

Starrfm.com.gh reports that he explained Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, is free of filth because its government adopted an authoritarian and autocratic approach.

According to him, the strategy used in the country makes it easy for state authorities to ensure order and absolute rule of law.

It is also believed that Rwandans are more law-abiding and sensitive to their surroundings than Ghanaians, especially those living in the capital city.

Sowah said Ghana would be much better if citizens obeyed the laws religiously with regard to the disposal of refuse.

He noted that the Akufo-Addo government is still keen on making Accra the cleanest city in Africa before the end of his tenure.

He added that the ministry of sanitation has procured 4000 bins, of which 2000 will be placed in vantage points in Accra and the other 2000 will be spread across other regional capitals.
