Kokrobite suffers lights out for 2 weeks after PDS worker was attacked in the suburb

Some residents of Kokrobite in the Greater Accra Region have experienced power outages for two weeks now suspiciously after a staff of the Power Distribution Service, (PDS,)was assaulted in the area.

Two weeks after a worker of the Power Distribution Services (PDS) was attacked at Kokrobite, a suburb of Accra, some parts of the suburb have experienced continuous absence of electricity since the incident.

A resident of the area, Simon Ampadu spoke to Joy FM, saying: "We vehemently don’t want this happening (the attack on the PDS employee)."

However, it has happened we thought they were going to reconnect the power for us but after contacting them we are told that until they are able to arrest the person who committed the offence we won’t get our lights back."

But the PDS is denying that there is any targeted power outage of the people staying at Kokrobite. They are however saying the problem that needs to be fixed there may not be done in earnest because workers do not feel safe going to Kobrobite.

Reacting to the comments from the residents, the Accra West PRO of PDS, Fred Johnson, said unless they can guarantee the safety of their workers, they will not send them there to fix the fault.

Johnson said: "It has become more of a security issue together with the police we are working to find who committed the act against us and we are also working to ensure the safety of our workers "

"So until this security assurance from the police we can’t send our staff back there to do the job they are supposed to do," he added.
