Uber driver reveals how criminals are using the service to undertake robbery

An anonymous Uber driver is asking Ghanaians to remain vigilant as a result of the undue advantage some posers are taking of the service to rob passengers.

An Uber driver who wished to be anonymous has explained that some unscrupulous individuals are using the ride-sharing app service to commit robbery and other nefarious activities.

Speaking to Classfmonline.com on Wednesday, 27 March 2019, the driver said some passengers he has come across complained that some Nigerians who have ventured into the business are using it as a cover-up for their robbery activities.

On condition of anonymity, he said: “You all have to be careful when you want to engage the services of Uber because some Nigerian criminals are taking advantage of the service to attack people and rob them".

“As a driver, when I see a request and it is coming from a prospective client bearing a Nigerian name, I get alarmed and, so, you all have to be careful.

“They have attacked and rob students at Legon and they are doing it in other places, too. They are destroying our business for us”.

This is not the first time Ghanaians have been warned of the dangers the popular Uber service is all of a sudden posing to Ghanaians.

The ploy used by these dangerous drivers include use of vehicles with tinted glasses, drivers insisting on shorter routes and feigning petrol shortages and other problems.

However, this is the first time the criminal Uber allegations including Nigerians have been made on a wider scale.
