- Akufo-Addo swears in 6 new ministers
- The President has justified the number of Ministers appointed to serve in his government
President Nana Akufo-Addo has justified the size of his government again.
Akufo-Addo was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new regional ministers and their deputies at the Jubilee House.
He opined that Ghanaians will understand the rational to appoint many ministers after his first term ends in 2021.
“As you know there are some who say my government is too big and there are too many of you. I am a firm believer in the adage the proof of the pudding is in the eating.”
The President also urged the newly appointed ministers to work hard and deliver to the people of Ghana.
“I am confident you can do a good job and I look forward to working closely with you to bring progress and prosperity to our nation, ”President Akufo-Addo said.
The swearing-in of the 6 new ministers bring the number of ministers to 125.
Ghana has now created six new regions bringing the total number of regions in the country to sixteen.
The creation of the new regions was a campaign promise by Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2016. His government considered the successful referendum as significant in fulfilling that promise.
The last time Ghana created new regions was in 1983 under a military regime.
The new regions are; Oti, Ahafo, Bono East, Savannah and North East regions. These regions were carved out of the Western, Brong Ahafo, Northern and Volta regions.
