Young man organises his Dutch friends to embark on impactful clean-up in Osu

A young man looking to contribute his widow's mite to help solve Accra's sanitation problems has embarked on a clean-up challenge with some friends.

Noble Nortey, a young resident of Accra, gathered a few of his friends to embark on a clean-up challenge as part of his contribution to helping solve the problems of sanitation in his city.

Nortey, who contacted about his clean-up exercise, said he closely followed the clean up challenges on social media and was impressed and inspired by the stories and pictures of those part of it.

The diligent young man decided the perfect place that needed cleaning was the space behind the Shell fuel station, a place quite close to the Osu filling station in Accra.

So on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, Nortey and his Dutch friends went straight to work, cleaning the place. He reports that quite a few people gathered to watch them do the work.

Not surprisingly, some were impressed and curious to find out that two white women were literally bent over human excrement with their black friend.

Eventually, Nortey adds that a little kid left the midst of the observers to come help. Another young man joined in with a lady friend of his, and even though they did not finish with Nortey's crew, they were of great help.

Before Nortey and his friends left their cleaned up scene, a man who claimed to be a social worker came by and congratulated them.

Nortey refused to burn the trash because it had a lot of plastic and chemical materials in there, and besides, the whole thing was a bit damp due to recent rains.

This is a particularly helpful bit in these days of climate change sensitisation.

Nortey is by all measurements the sort of Ghanaian worth emulating.

A million others like this young man who take things into their hands to impact positively the communities in which they find themselves, is the kind of thing worth praising.
