- J. B Danquah-Adu's alleged killer, Daniel Asiedu, aka Sexy Dondon has told the court he needs more room to sleep at the Nsawan Prisons
- The suspect also requested for a lawyer from ICC
The alleged killer of Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa-North, has prayed the Accra High Court to direct the Ghana Prisons Service to find him a place to sleep.
On Monday, April 1, 2019, Daniel Asiedu, during court hearing told the judge there was no space for him to sleep at the Nsawam Medium Prisons, a situation that forced him to stand at night.
“Where I am is full of convicts and is crowded; I don’t get a place to sleep. I have to stand at night. Please tell the prison officers to get me a place to sleep,” Asiedu prayed the court.
The presiding judge, Mr Justice George Buadi asked the prison officer in the court room to see to the claims of ‘Sexy Dondon’ and report back in the next hearing.
Meanwhile, Mr Justice Buadi has ordered the registrar of the court to write to the Legal Aid Scheme to provide a lawyer to represent Asiedu in the course of the trial.
The order followed the absence of a lawyer to represent Asiedu in court.
“In view of the nature of the offence and sanctions that it entails, there is a need to get the suspect a lawyer.
I order the registrar to write to the Legal Aid Scheme to secure a competent lawyer in this matter to represent Daniel Asiedu,” Justice Buadi ordered.
Hearing continues on April 15, 2019.
Two days after his murder, the Accra Regional Police Command, led by COP Dr George A. Dampare, led an operation to arrest Daniel Asiedu who allegedly confessed to committing the crime.
