5 top artistes with the highest VGMA @ 20 nominations

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is 20 years and once again, they are set to award hardworking artistes for the year in review.

Even though there have always been controversies surrounding the award scheme, the VGMAs is an award scheme that all artistes in Ghana look up to.

Nominations for the various categories in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards have been announced.

Top artistes belonging to the various genres have been nominated to compete in the most popular music award scheme in Ghana.

Even though most artistes have been nominated, some artistes came out top as those with the highest number of nominations.

Here, YEN.com.gh brings to you five top artistes with the highest nominations.

Stonebwoy - 9 nominations

Reggae dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, real name Livingstone Etse Satekla came out top with two other artistes to clinch nine nominations for the VGMAs.

Stonebwoy has done a lot of work during the year in review, making him one of the most talked about artistes in Ghana.

His songs such has 'Most Original', 'Top Skanka', 'Mane Me' 'Kpoo Keke' among others made hits during the year 2018.

Stonebwoy was nominated for Artiste of the Year, Reggae dancehall Artiste of the Year, Record of the Year with his song 'Tomorrow', Song Writer of the Year with his song 'Tomorrow', Reggae dancehall Song of the Year with his song 'Top Skanka', Most Popular Song of the Year with his song 'Kpoo Keke', Collaboration of the Year with 'Kpoo Keke', Best African Collaboration with 'Wame' ft. Casper Nyovest and Hiplife Song of the Year with 'Kpoo Keke'.

Shatta Wale - 9 nominations

Popular dancehall artiste Shatta Wale known in real life as Charles Nii Armah Mensah also dominated with nine nominations for the VGMAs.

Shatta Wale has worked so hard during the year in review, a reason he has such huge number of nominations.

His songs such as 'My Level', 'Gringo', 'Thunder Fire' among others made hits throughout 2018 making him one of the most sought after artiste.

Shatta Wale's nomination however came as a surprise to many since the self -proclaiming dancehall artiste was known to be at loggerheads with Charterhouse, organizers of the VGMAs.

Shatta Wale was nominated for Artiste of the Year, Reggae dancehall artiste of the Year, Reggae dancehall Song of the Year with his song 'Gringo', Most Popular Song of the Year with 'My Level', Best African Collaboration of the Year with his song Wonder ft. Olamide, Video of the Year with 'Gringo', Album of the Year with 'Reign Album', Afropop Song of the Year with Thunder Fire ft. Militants and Highlife Song of the Year with 'My Level'.

King Promise - 9 nominations

Highlife artiste King Promise, real name Promise Bortey is one of the artiste with many nominations in the 2019 VGMAs.

Even though he has not been in the industry for a long time, King Promise has become a household name on the music scene.

His silky and smooth voice has made him one of the most preferred when top artistes want to feature a singer.

Songs like 'Abena', 'CCTV', 'Tokyo' among others were hits that King Promise made during the year 2018, a reason he had nine nominations.

King Promise was nominated for Artiste of the Year, Highlife Artiste of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Song Writer of the Year with 'CCTV', Best Collaboration of the Year with CCTV ft. Mugeez and Sarkodie, Afropop Song of the Year with 'Tokyo', Highlife Song of the Year with CCTV, Song of the Year with CCTV, Best African Collaboration of the Year with 'Tokyo.'

Sarkodie - 7 nominations

Rapper Sarkodie known in real life as Michael Owusu Addo is one of the artistes with the highest nominations.

Sarkodie has been a household name in Ghana over the years and with hard work in the year 2018, he has earned seven nominations.

Sarkodie's rap skills, brand and fan base has made him one of the most preferred rappers in Ghana.

His songs such as 'Biibi Ba', Can't Let You Go' among others had much air play in 2018, enabling him come top in the nominations.

Sarkodie was nominated for Artiste of the Year, Rapper of the Year, Hiphop Song of the Year with Biibi Ba, Collaboration of the Year with Can't Let You Go ft. King Promise, Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste of the Year, Best Video of the Year with Biibi Ba, Hiplife Song of the Year with 'Can't Let You Go.'

Kuami Eugene - 5 nominations

Highlife artiste Kuami Eugene, real name Eugene Kwame Marfo also comes into the top 5 artistes with the highest nominations.

Kuami Eugene has become a household name in the music industry even though he has not kept long on the scene.

Kuami Eugene's silky and smooth voice havs made him one of the most preferred when top artistes want to feature a singer.

Songs like 'Wish Me Well', 'Walahi', 'Confusion' among others made waves throughout the year 2018.

Kuami Eugene was nominated for 'Artiste of the Year', Song of the Year with his song 'Wish Me Well', Producer of the Year, Highlife Artiste of the Year and Album of the Year with 'Rockstar Album'.

Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, King Promise, Sarkodie and Kuami Eugene are the five top artistes with the highest nominations in the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music awards.

VGMAs is 20 years and Charterhouse has promised to add an epic touch to the VGMAs at 20 grand event.

Charterhouse promised to thrill Ghanaians to a special event marking 20 years of successful but challenging project.

On April 6, 2019, the VGMAs nominee jam will begin with a super concert in Kumasi.

Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale among others will thrill music lovers in the Ashanti region to their hit songs of the year.
