75% of MPs have either BP or diabetes – Dr Kwabena Donkor claims

- 75% of Members of Parliament in Ghana have High Blood Pressure or diabetes as a result of their work

- According to MP for Pru East Constituency, Dr. Donkor, the MP job is a pressure job

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Pru East Constituency, Dr Kwabena Donkor has claimed that 75% of Ghana’s Parliamentarians have High Blood Pressure or diabetes

This, he said, is as a result of their busy work schedules and the pressures they deal with on a daily basis.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Mr. Donkor said he faced numerous pressures during his time as Power Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration.

According to him, he was under intense pressure during the “dumsor” era, adding that most of his colleague MPs are under same amount of pressure.

He further claimed that about 75% of his colleagues in Parliament may have “BP or diabetes.”

Diabetes is a disease which one suffers when his or her blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels are too high.

High blood pressure or BP usually refers to the pressure in large arteries of the systemic circulation.

In 2018, it was revealed that only 100 out of 275 Ghanaian legislators have so far visited the Parliamentary Clinic for medical screening.

This was made known by the MP for New Juaben South, Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah.

According to him, most lawmakers are usually not interested in going for health screening at the Parliamentary Clinic.
