- Ghanaians can now heave a sigh of relief after PDS released a proper load shedding timetable
- In all 8 regions will be affected by the first official load shedding as Power Distribution Services (PDS) has released a timetable for its power rationing
The Power Distribution Services (PDS) has released its first official load shedding timetable after weeks of asking by Ghanaians.
The statement released by PDS indicated that eight regions will be affected by the load shedding on Friday, April 5, 2019 between 6am-6pm.
In a statement, PDS noted that: “since generation deficit varies, PDS may review the outages depending on the situation upstream [and some] areas may experience outages.”
It also noted that Friday, April 5, outages are as a result of the shut down of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant
The decision on the release of a proper timetable for the power rationing follows a crunch meeting between PDS, the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Thursday, April 4.
Confirming news to the media, public relations officer of the PURC, Bawa Mounkeila, said a daily schedule of blackout will help Ghanaians plan their day and adjust to the current challenges.
…So, we insisted that PDS makes an announcement at least 24 hours in a daily schedule. If there is any information to those who will go off on a particular day, they will know ahead of time. This should not take us more than 24 hours. However, when the announcements are made, we will monitor and ensure that it is followed religiously. By Friday, we should be expecting daily updates on outages in electricity.”
