Akufo-Addo cuts sod for construction of the Tamale Interchange

- According to the president, Ghana will witness a dramatic change to infrastructure, especially in the roads sector

President Nana Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 launched the first phase of the $2billion Government of Ghana-Sinohydro Master Project.

He also cut the sod for the construction of the Tamale Interchange, the first interchange in the whole of the northern sector of the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nana Akufo-Addo said the country will witness “a dramatic and very welcome change to its infrastructure”, especially in the roads sector.

Under the Sinohydro project, each of the 16 regions is set to benefit from the construction of hospitals, the extension of electricity to rural communities, and construction of courts and residential buildings for the Judicial Service, landfill sites and industrial parks.

Per the deal, the Sinohydro Group Limited of China will provide the infrastructure of the Ghana government’s choice in exchange for Ghana’s refined bauxite.

Ghana will establish a refinery and select a partner to undertake the refining of the bauxite in line with the deal.
