The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has been sued by a Lebanese-born Ghanaian businessman, Hassan Zein, for defamation.
Zein took legal action against the lawmaker and his television station, NET 2, for false allegations levelled against him in a documentary.
The businessman revealed that all efforts to retract, and consequently apologise, has proven futile.
Per a report by 3news.com, a writ quotes GH¢100 million as the damages being demanded by the businessman.
According to the plaintiff, the showing of the documentary, in December 2018, has defamed him and damaged his reputation.
The documentary is said to have shown Zein in fraud, drugs, money laundering and corruption deals.
It sought to create the impression that he had swindled his victims in various countries including Togo, Nigeria, Mali and Benin.
“Plaintiff avers that the video clip, together with the commentary and the discussions that followed soon after the clip, were highly and seriously defamatory and damaging to his reputation and businesses,” the writ noted.
