Woman alleges bank workers asked for WhatsApp chat before giving her Western Union money

A woman who had a rather memorable ordeal at an Access Bank bank during a Western Union transaction has had her story gone viral thanks to social media.

YEN.com.gh has sighted the story of a young woman who was apparently told at an Access Bank branch to show WhatsApp conversations between herself and the one whom she claimed sent her money through Western Union.

Nana Aquiah Asantewaa shared her story on Facebook via a group called Tell It All. There was however no telling as to when this engagement with the Access Bank staff occurred.

She wrote: "I was at Access Bank (Odorkor branch) today for a Western Union transaction and the teller said she has to go through my phone to see Whatsapp chats and calls between myself and the sender to confirm if the transaction is genuine after I had provided every necessary detail.”

This, if true, is obviously an untoward way of checking the legitimacy of money transactions between giver and receiver.

Asantewaa continued: "Who else has encountered this before and is it normal? Cos I withdraw money from Western Union at least twice a month from different banks and I haven’t encountered anything of such.

Access Bank workers, is that your policy cos I was very uncomfortable with the going through my phone part?"

Access Bank are yet to respond to the allegations made by Asantewaa. After all, she put it out in public.

Meanwhile, in one of the weirdest and frankly, funniest stories so far in 2019, a 3-year-old toddler has locked up his dad's iPad and now the device is asking the older man to try reopening in over 48 years.

25, 536,442 minutes translates into 48 and half years. That means even the 3-year-old boy could be looking at the latter part of his life by then.
