- On April 11, 2019, government announced it's plans to introduce a new uniform for students in junior high schools
- Parents do not seem to agree with the initiative by government
The initiative by the Ghana Education Service (GES)’s to introduce new uniforms for Junior High School (JHS) pupils starting 2019/2020 academic year has been condemned by a section of Ghanaian parents.
Most of these parents have described this initiative as a sham from government.
According to Ghanaweb.com reports, these parents stood against the initiative which according to them was a totally misplaced priority considering the many glaring needs facing the education system.

The parents specified that government needed to focus on introducing ideas that would enhance the socio-economic development rather than focus on new uniforms.
Some of the problems included the issue of overcrowding in most classrooms of public schools owing to inadequate infrastructure
The unhappy parents reiterated that many schools had witnessed student population ranging from 70 to 100 pupils per classroom, being taught by a single teacher, a situation that does not augur well for quality education.

Some of these parents were also unhappy about the fact that they would be laden with the task of paying for the uniforms for their wards; an extra cost burden for them.
GES in a press conference on Thursday, April 11, 2019, announced that the uniforms would be used in addition to the existing ones from September 2019 to prepare pupils to appreciate the fact that they are in transition from primary to a secondary school.
Students are expected to start wearing the new school uniform from next academic year, 2019 – 2020.
