Court grants Ofosu-Ampofo GHC100K bail

- Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has been granted bail in the sum of GHC100, 000 after appearing in court Tuesday, April 16, 2019

- The Accra Commercial Court adjourned the case to Monday May 6, 2019

The Accra Commercial Court has granted Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Chairman of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the party’s Deputy Communication officer, Mr Anthony Kwaku Boahen, a bail bond of GHS100,000 each with one surety.

The duo pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to cause harm and assault on a public officer.

The two have been charged with conspiracy to cause harm and assault against a public officer following a leaked tape during a meeting of party officials.

The judge adjourned the case to May 6, 2019.

Former president John Dramani Mahama was at the Accra High Court to support the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

Other NDC bigwigs were also present at the court to support their party chairman. They included Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, the spokesperson for the former president.

A leaked tape that surfaced a few months ago contained a voice which the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has identified as that of Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, inciting NDC communicators to go after the two personalities with insults.
