Comedy mixed with concern when a suspected criminal nabbed in someone else's living room in Takoradi claimed he was only taking a nap in the place.
Yusif Cobbinah, 37, was grabbed in the living room of another person in the Amanful West suburb of Takoradi on April 16, 2019, but Cobbinah, suspected of burglary, claimed he was only taking a nap.
Cobbinah claimed that he was on a journey and would have continued in the night after waking up from his nap.
But the suspected burglar's story seemed far-fetched for those who grabbed him because they believed he went to steal around midnight under the cover of darkness due to a metropolis-wide electricity blackout.
Telling his story to Conect FM in Sekondi-Takoradi, the apartment's legitimate occupant, Anthony Atobrah said: “I heard an unusual noise in the room that woke me up, only to see an image lying flat on the floor”.
“I then started shouting to attract neighbours to the scene but sensing danger, the suspect started struggling with me and in the ensuing struggle, he nearly threw me down from the top floor of the two storey building but for the timely intervention of a security man nearby”.
When the suspect was questioned by the tenant as to what he was doing in the room, he said he was travelling, but due to poor visibility, he wanted to take some nap before he continued the journey.
With the assistance of the assembly member of the area, Charles Kweku Danso, the suspect was overpowered and sent to the Market Circle Police station
Unknown to those who performed the citizen's arrest, Cobbinah is a known notorious thief to the police.
He has since been placed in custody and will soon be processed for court.
