NDC drops plans of taking EC to court over new voters register

- The NDC has hinted of plans to drag the EC to court over the new voters register

- This comes after the EC revealed plans of compiling a new voters register

- A professor, Ransford Gyampo, meanwhile believes the EC needs to shelve the idea

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed plans of filing a suit to prevent the Electoral Commission (EC) from creating a new voters register for the 2020 elections.

This follows a notice served by the EC to the effect that it will compile a new register ahead of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

YEN.com.gh understands that the EC is currently inspecting the offices of political parties following an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.

NDC’s Abraham Amaliba noted, “The circumstances under which Jean Mensah was appointed makes her feel she owes her allegiance to Akufo-Addo and not to the people of Ghana.

Jean Mensah is putting in place measures to disenfranchise most Ghanaians in the name of a new register.

NDC has plans to file a suit against this new register which will disenfranchise most Ghanaians.”

Per a Starrfm.com.gh report, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has urged the EC to abandon the idea.

According to him, grounds for the creation of a new register are not solid enough even though the EC reserves the right to create a new roll for the polls.
