Suspected killer of Hussein-Suale demands GHC20,000 offered as bribe

- Abdul Rashid Maizango, suspected of having a hand in the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, is demanding GHC20,000 from the CID

- There is confusion over the amount, as his family claims it is GHC25,000, as against GHC20,000 announced by the police

- The director-general of the CID, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, is currently out of the country

Abdul Rashid Maizango, earlier suspected of playing a role in the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale, is demanding an amount of GHC20,000 given to the police. Per a report by, the amount was offered to the police as bribe, but it was rejected.

The amount appears to be up for debate, as Maizango claims it is GHC25,000 and not GHC20,000, as announced by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.

Maizango’s elder brother, Abdul Nasir, argued that the family was informed the money is in possession of the director-general of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Maa Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.

Per a report by, she is currently out of the country, and is scheduled to return soon.

Nasir, a graduate of the Islamic University College, Ghana and a staff of a state institution, stated that his brother was bombarded with calls before his arrest by some police officers.

The police officers, understands, created a high level of fear in him over a certain criminality.

Having been detained at the Nima Police Station for close to a week, Maizango was accorded a warm reception after his release on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.

Female well-wishers clutching containers of talcum powder showered him with the stuff as a sign of relief and joy upon his regained freedom.

Members of the Zongo communities in both Accra and Kumasi have showed maximum interest in the case.

They juxtaposed it against the fatal shooting of some Zongo youth in the Ashanti Regional capital over which the state paid compensation to the bereaved families recently.
