The 2020 elections is without doubt a crucial decider in the life story of Former president John Mahama.
It presents him another opportunity to take a shot at the presidency, and rule Ghana for another 4-year term.
Taking into consideration his defeat in the 2016 elections and his decision to launch a comeback, some things may run through his head as he pursues his dream.
YEN.com.gh has a list of five things that could potentially rob his of a good night sleep every night:
1. Fear of defeat:
Without doubt, it would be politically suicidal for John Mahama to presume that the 2020 elections would be easy for him, given the fact that President Akufo-Addo has one more term to serve.
Mahama would therefore be conscious of the fact that defeat is possible.
2. Length of his political career:
The possibility of Mahama's political career ending after the 2020 elections is an outcome that cannot be ignored.
Inasmuch as he believes in his ability to win the election, he may also consider what to do after losing the election.
3. Reaction of party officials, media and other Ghanaians:
Another area of concern to Mahama would be the reaction of people closely related to the election after the dust settles.
In the event of a loss, a myriad of people would have various things to say after all is said and done.
4. Cost of campaign:
Without doubt, a lot of money would be spent in contesting in the 2020 elections.
Mahama would therefore possibly calculate how much would be involved and would wish to know the how to ‘settle’ the debt, in event of a loss.
5. NDC’s task of selecting a new flagbearer:
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) may be in the process of preparing another candidate to represent it for the 2024 elections. In that regard, Mahama's win or loss in the 2020 elections may prove to be a crucial factor.
