- It has become compulsory to have toilet facility in every household in Ghana
- The minister of sanitation has called on women to reject the proposals of men who have no toilet facilities in their homes
The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah has advised young women to reject the marriage proposals of men who have no decent toilet facilities in their homes.
She said it was undignifying for people, especially women, to be put in a position where they cannot have access to decent toilet facilities.
The minister made this known at an engagement with the media on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
“When your facility breaks down, meaning your toilet facility, please invest some money to maintain and reconstruct or rehabilitate it. It will help all of us.
We know what sanitation gives to us, sanitation gives all of us dignity, especially we the women, so, I entreat all young ladies: if you’re marrying and the man doesn’t have a toilet in the home, please don’t agree,” she said.
She also revealed that the ministry has launched guidelines for targeting the poor and vulnerable for basic sanitation services in Ghana.
