- The MP for Ayensuano constituency, Samuel Ayeh-Paye, has argued there is no need for senior minister, Osafo Maafo, to resign
- He explained that the focus should be on the fight against illegal mining in Ghana
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayensuano constituency, Samuel Ayeh-Paye, has jumped to the defense of the senior minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo, over calls for his resignation.
Per a Dailguidenetwork.com report, he said it is important to shift attention to other issues such as winning the fight against illegal mining.
His comments come after Osafo Maafo was subjected to criticisms by a cross-section of Ghanaians for his remarks about one Aisha Huang.
The minority side in Parliament has also indicated its intention to trigger his removal from office as senior minister.
Huang, who has since been deported, was named as one of the key people involved in illegal mining in Ghana.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that she served as a liaison officer between Ghana and China.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in the United States of America, Osafo Maafo stated that "putting that lady (Aisha Huang) in jail in Ghana is not going to solve your economic problems. It is not going to make you or me happy, that’s not important”.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as other people have condemned him, with some asking for his resignation.
