The story of a little boy who took a chicken to the hospital with his saved pocket money because he ran over the poor bird has gone viral thanks to Facebook.
A 6-year-old boy in India who accidentally ran over a chicken has been awarded for his kindheartedness after he took the bird to the hospital with pocket money that he had saved.
Derek C Lalchhanhima was awarded a citation that captured his action as that of a warrior.
The Facebook post that went viral was shared by user Sanga Says on April 2, 2019.
The post said: "I guess by now you all know who this adorable kid is. Derek C Lalchhanhima (age 6) is being honoured by his school and he is draped in a shawl which is a traditional way of honouring someone among Mizos.
In Mizo tradition different types of shawls are usually presented to esteemed guests and in olden days, to pasalțha (braves or warriors) who have accomplished great feats."
The photo of the teary-eyed boy holding the chicken in one hand and a currency note in other has since tugged on the heartstrings of many.
The Facebook user who initially posted the story reportedly told Hindustan Times that the boy first returned home and begged his parents to take the chicken to the hospital.
However, his father asked him to go himself. Derek eventually returned home upset because no one helped him. He even tried to go back, this time with some money.
The post about little Derek has received more than 87,000 shares and a ton of comments on Facebook.
