The national communications director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has reacted to the resignation of a minister of state, Rockson Bukari.

According to him, Bukari’s resignation is meaningless and useless, if he is not arrested and prosecuted.

Bukari resigned from his position after it emerged he tried to bribe a journalist, Edward Adeti, with a motorbike and an amount of GHC5000.

This followed allegations about acts of corruption involving the Shaanxi Mining Company, which is located in the Upper East region.

Bukari informed Adeti that his investigations would affect the relationship between the Chinese managers and the traditional authorities, specifically the Tongorana, per a report by 3news.com.

President Akufo-Addo has meanwhile accepted Bukari's resignation and wished him well in future endeavours.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, Sammy Gyamfi intimated the resignation of the minister does not mean anything.

“The resignation of the minister is totally meaningless and useless until it leads to his prosecution and punishment, and the prosecution of all other crooked members of the Akufo-Addo government who have been found to compromise our fight against galamsey”, he explained.

He stressed that the law is not a respecter of persons and ought not be selective in applying it to public officers.
