Akufo-Addo visits family of late Vib-Sanziri (Photos)

- President Nana Akufo-Addo has eulogized the late Major General Francis Vib-Sanziri

- Major General Vib-Sanziri died on 19 April 2019 in Israel

President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, visited the home of the family of the late Major General, Francis Vib-Sanziri, Ghanaian Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) who passed on recently.

Major General Vib-Sanziri died on April 19, 2019 in Israel.

The President was in the company of the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayokor Botchway among other Security Chiefs in the country.

A good citizen and fine soldier who had a distinguished military career has left us to join his Maker. We thank him for his service to our nation and the world. We will do our best to ensure the welfare of the widow he has left behind. May his soul rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the Almighty,” Akufo-Addo wrote in the book of Condolence.

Since joining the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in 1985, Major General Vib-Sanziri had a distinguished military career at the national and international levels.

He served as Director-General of the International Peace Support Operations at the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces since April 2017.

He also served as Assistant Director, Ghana Army Operations (1996-1998), Deputy Head of the Ghana Military Academy (2002-2004), Commanding Officer of an Infantry Battalion (2004-2009), Director for International Peacekeeping Support Operations in 2009 and Army Secretary at the Army Headquarters (2010-2011).

Major General Vib-Sanziri’s extensive peacekeeping experience includes deployments to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in 1988 and 1991, United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda (UNAMIR) in 1993 and 1994 and the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in 2007.
