A pastor has been dragged to an Accra Circuit Court for biting her pregnant girlfriend when a brawl broke between them.
Kwabena Asare-Sakyi, a 39-year-old pastor has been dragged to court following an assault on his girlfriend.
The prosecutor Sergeant Opoku Aniagyei said the complainant lives in the same vicinity with Asare-Sayi at Tse-Addo, a suburb of Accra.
He said the complainant had been in a relationship with Asare-Sakyi for some weeks now but has detected she was pregnant thus decided to inform Asare-Sakyi.
Sergeant Opoku said at about 9 p.m. on March 10, 2019, Asare-Sakyi invited the complainant to his house for a discussion over the pregnancy.
During the discussion, the prosecution said a disagreement ensued which made Asare-Sakyi offended, triggering him to attack his girlfriend and beat her up mercilessly to the extent of biting her forefinger.
While the brawl was going on, he said the complainant screamed aloud and people came to her rescue.
After they were separated, she went on to report the incident to the police which led the police to arrest Asare-Sakyi.
He was charged with the offence of causing harm to which he pleaded guilty with an explanation that he did not assault her intentionally.
Asare-Sakyi said he told his pregnant girlfriend to be patient and that he will marry her, but she wasn’t patient and it generated into an argument and the biting of her finger.
The court, presided over by Mrs Rita Abrokwa Doko, gave the sentence while taking into consideration the fact that Asare-Sakyi did not waste the court’s time, he is not known and he also pleaded for leniency to go and take care of the pregnancy.
Therefore, Kwabena Asare-Sakyi was sentenced to a fined of GH¢840 for biting the forefinger of his girlfriend.
He was also to compensate the girlfriend with an amount of GH¢1,000 to take care of the medical expenses and in default will serve a 12-month jail term.
