KNUST bans sports betting and all forms of gambling on campus

- The KNUST has banned gambling and betting among the students on campus

- According to the university students who are caught breaching the new directive will suffer a one year rustication as a sanction

Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have been banned from gambling and sports betting on campus.

The decision was taken by management following a board meeting which was held last Thursday, May 2, 2019 on the issue.

Many students have reportedly been gambling on campus, with sports betting also gaining roots at the institution.

The university’s management agreed that students found to be engaged in gambling or sports betting will be suspended.

The school has also decided not accept any donation or sponsorship from any of the sports betting companies.

Meanwhile, all betting websites have also been reportedly blocked from the university’s WIFI in order to prevent students from gaining access to such sites.

The University or any of its department hereafter shall not accept any donation or sponsorship package from any betting company for any program on the Science and technology campus,” a source told Kumasi-based Ultimate FM.

The University Information Technology Service (UITS) has hence been instructed to block all betting websites from the University’s WIFI accessible to all students,” the source continued.
