President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, says the country’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) has lost weight which shows that he is really working hard.

Buhari has been away from the country following a 10-day private visit to the United Kingdom (UK).

Speaking to journalists upon his arrival back in Nigeria on Sunday, the President was asked to outline his approach in the fight against insecurity.

Are we likely to see a different approach in the fight against insecurity, especially kidnapping, which is a big issue now Sir?” the reporter asked.

However, Buhari gave a response which has since sparked controversy among Nigerians on social media.

Rather than tackle the question head-on, the President said Acting IGP Muhammad Adamu has lost weight which shows that he is really working hard.

You know, I have just seen the IG, he is… I think he is losing weight; so, I think he is working very hard,” he said.

Cases of kidnapping have been on the rise in the West African country in recent years, with many citizens, especially children, reported missing.
