- The GNFS wants government to equip all fire stations across the country
- According to the Chief Fire Officer, Edwin Ekow Blankson the service need to be properly equipped to form its duties fully
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has called on government to ensure that there are fire stations in all the various districts across the country.
The GNFS said, just like the One District One Factory agenda, there is the need to have fire stations at every district.
They also appealed to the government to equip fire stations in the districts to enhance their operations.
Newly sworn-in Chief Fire Officer of the GNFS, Edwin Ekow Blankson, said this has become necessary in order to be able to contain fire and other hazards in every district.
Mr. Blankson was speaking at an induction and church service ceremony in Accra to officially swear him into office.
He said only eight fire stations have been opened since he assumed office, adding that the government must do more.
He said the Fire Service operate in 55 more districts which also deserve to have their own fire stations.
Mr. Blankson said he will do his best as Chief Fire Officer to ensure that the GNFS is ran in the best possible way.
He said management had put together a five-year strategic plan to guide the service to attain their vision to modernise the GNFS.
The strategy, he said, includes turning the GNFS into a world class fire and rescue service capable of providing efficient emergency response and fire protection to Ghanaians.
He further revealed that 40 Ghanaian fire officers would undertake a course in Malta in May 2019 to enhance their capacity.
The initiative is being supported by the Maltese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Blankson added.
