Ghanaian-born wrestler Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah popularly known as Kofi Kingston has successfully defended his WWE crown.
Kofi Kingston put his WWE Championship on the line during Tuesday night's (May 7, 2019) WWE SmackDown Live, yet the New Day member prevailed again.
In a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Prowrestling.com, Kingston defended his WWE Championship in a triple threat match in the main event against two WWE Raw Superstars activating the “Wild Card” rule in Sami Zayn and AJ Styles, just one day removed from defeating Daniel Bryan on Raw.
However, despite the odds being stacked against him and an interruption from the current number one contender, Kevin Owens, Kingston was able to defend his title once again heading into the European Tour with the title around his waist.
Kofi first won the WWE belt when he defied all odds to reign supreme over Daniel Bryan on March 7, 2019.
With the historic win, he thus became just the second African American (following Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and first African native to hold WWE’s signature title.
YEN.com.gh previously reported a story of Kingston confirming that he will be returning to Ghana soon.
It will be Kingston's first time in Ghana since leaving the West African country in 1993.
