NDC claims gov’t is using police to intimidate Ofosu Ampofo

- The NDC has accused the NPP of using police officials to intimidate its chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo

- The party further stated that Ofosu Ampofo would not honour the latest invitation from the CID

- This comes after the CID invited him to help with investigations after his name was mentioned by some suspects

The Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of using police officials to intimidate the party’s national chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

A member of the council, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, addressed the press on behalf of the party, and explained that there is a deliberate plan to clamp down on dissenting views in Ghana.

He added that the government is using intimidation and harassment to cause Ofosu Ampofo to be afraid.

According to him, the tactic has been extended to the members of the party as well, and is evidenced by the latest invitation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to Ofosu Ampofo.

Alhaji Iddirsu added that the CID claimed some suspects in cases of kidnapping and fire incidents in the country had mentioned Ofosu Ampofo’s name.

He went on to say the party believes these are lies being fabricated by the CID at the instigation of the government.

He also alleged that the police’s invitation was also a diversionary tactic by the government to take the attention of Ghanaians away from growing lawlessness.

Per a Citinewsroom.com report, the party further warned that the actions of the police and the government could undermine the country’s democracy.

While indicating that it was ready to assist the police to ensure that law and order prevail in the country, it said it would not stay unconcerned if its leaders were harassed.
