President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo together with 16 other influential leaders across the globe have been appointed as advocates for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The appointments were made by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
President Akufo-Addo is the co-chair of the Advocates together with Prime Minister of Norway (Kingdom of Norway), Her Excellency Erna Solberg.
Other members of the group includes Jack Ma, Founder and Executive Chairman, Alibaba Group (People’s Republic of China), Forest Whitaker, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative, UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation (United States of America), among others.
According to the UN, the 17 public figures are committed to raising awareness, inspiring greater ambition, and pushing for faster action on the SDGs.
To build the momentum for transformative, inclusive development by 2030, the UN Secretary-General’s SDG Advocates are to use their unique platforms and leadership to inspire cross-cutting mobilization of the global community.
