Popular radio personality Afia Pokua popularly known as Vim Lady has narrated the story of how she became a maidservant.
Afia Pokua of Accra-based radio station Adom FM has revealed that she once worked as a maidservant in Osu Children's Home.
According to the newscaster, her poor father took the decision so she could be able to attend Senior High School.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Afia Pokua shared her touching story of how she made it in life.
"I was once a maidservant. I used to be a maidservant at Osu Children's Home because I needed to be close to my school," she disclosed.
Afia Pokua explained that when she finished B.E.C.E, she passed very well and had admission at Labone SHS.
She noted that even though she had an admission, the school did not admit her to the boarding house which brought about the challenge.
The host of 'Burning Issues' disclosed how her father sought help from the caretaker of the Osu Children's Home.
"So my father is walking there and he sees Osu Children’s Home, he walks there and says I have a daughter who has gotten admission here but hasn’t gotten boarding so I want her to come live with you like a maidservant," she narrated.
Afia Pokua stated that the caretaker of Osu Children's Home at the time accepted his father's offer and allowed her to stay in one of the bungalows as she worked and school.
According to Vim Lady, she lived with the caretaker who she didn’t even know throughout her entire secondary school time.
She added that she felt like an orphan who was given away but when she casts her mind back, she understands why her dad made such a tough decision.
