Coconut oil helps in slowing down the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and also aids in weight loss. Today, not only is it used for cooking but is also an ingredient in shampoos, face creams, sweets, smoothies, coffee and in many other products.

There are three common techniques used to make coconut oil;

The cold press method

What you will need:

  • Dried coconut
  • Bowl
  • Juicer
  • Medium-sized jar
  • A spoon

Procedure:

Step 1

Separate your dried coconut flakes in small batches. Put them in the juicer in these bits to prevent clogging. Allow the juicer to completely process all the flakes so as to remove the cream and oil from the fiber.

Step 2

Run the flakes through the juicer once again to extract all the oil.

Step 3

Transfer the oil to a jar and store it in a warm place. It is important that you wait for at least 24 hours for the cream to settle down in the jar. This will allow the pure coconut oil to rise above the cream.

Step 4

Now that the oil is solidified and settled above the cream, use a spoon to remove it and place it in another clean jar. You can now exploit the oil as it is ready for use.

Procedure:

Step 1

Use the sharp cleaver to split the mature brown coconut. To acquire great results, using a young green one is not recommended.

Step 2

Using a butter knife, extract the flesh, which is the white part, and put the pieces in a bowl. You can carefully cut them into smaller sizes using a sharper knife.

Step 3

Transfer the diced pieces to a food processor. Turn it on and give them enough time to get properly shredded. If necessary, add some of the water from the coconut for better blending.

Step 4

Take a wide-mouth jar and place a cheesecloth or coffee filter over its mouth. Pour small amounts of the mixture onto the cloth used and wrap it. Squeeze it as hard as you can to extract all the product from the coconut mixture.

Step 5

Place the jar containing the extracted liquids in a refrigerator and leave it to settle for at least a minimum of 24 hours. This allows the curd to harden more quickly. If you do not have access to a refrigerator, you can leave the jar in a cool room.

Step 6

In this case, the curd will settle on top while the oil will be left at the bottom of the jar. Therefore, you can use a spoon to get rid of the curd. Pure virgin coconut oil will be left in the jar, ready for use.
