Officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region have reported the minister of state in charge of national security, Bryan Acheampong, to the police.

This follows a statement attributed to Acheampong with regard to the arrival of a container full of weapons at the Tema Port.

YEN.com.gh understands that NDC’s Ashanti regional communications officer, Abass Nurudeen, claimed Acheampong was behind the importation of the weapons.

This did not go down well with the minister, who said he could “mechanically remove the stupidity” out of Abass Nurudeen.

NDC’s Ashanti regional secretary, Kwame Zu, per a Citinewsroom.com report, indicated that the party is not taking the threat kindly and is therefore seeking respite from the police.

He said the police have given assurances that they will look into the matter and revert to the party if the need be.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service (GPS) assured that security agencies have physically examined the said truck and its contents and found them to be imported pump action guns.

The weapons, GPS added, are covered by regular documentation authorized by the ministry for the Interior and relevant agencies, and they conform to the documents covering them.
