NCA clamps down on Nduom's radio station

The National Communication Authority (NCA) has shut down Elmina-based Ahomka FM belonging to businessman and politician, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom.

The shutting down of the station is part of efforts by the NCA to close down radio stations which have failed to renew their licenses.

The NCA has so far shut down about eight radio stations across the country in the exercise that began last week, Thursday, May 9, 2019.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) shut down two radio stations in the Bono Regional Capital, Sunyani.

General Manager of Space FM, Yaw Boadi Aboagye confirmed the station’s shutdown to Citi News.

The General Manager of Ark FM also confirmed the shutdown of the station by the Authority but failed to speak on record.

These closures follow the shutdown of some five radio stations in an exercise that began last Thursday, May 9, 2019.

Following the initial shutdown of Radio XYZ and Radio Gold, Nananom FM, said to be owned by former Works and Housing Minister Collins Dauda; Genesis FM, owned by NDC stalwart, Nana Adjei Ampofo – both in the Ahafo Regional Capital town of Goaso – were closed on Friday, May 10 for breaching licence regulations.

Sekpele FM at Likpe in the Oti Region was also closed down on the same Friday.

Although the NCA has said that exercise will be conducted throughout the country without restriction to ensure that all FM stations in the country meet the laid down licensing rules, it has been accused of acting in bad faith.
