The 2019 World Beard and Moustache Championship is underway in Antwerp, Belgium bringing eccentric individuals together from around the world.
A biennial beard and moustache championship is happening in the Belgium city of Antwerp looking to pick out the persons with the best beards according to certain categories.
Sponsored this year by the Moustache Club of Antwerp, the event draws beard and moustache enthusiasts from around the world for a three-day convention and contest.
The competition that began on Friday, May 17, 2019 will include a ladies’ competition, with categories for Realistic and Creative expression of artificial beards and moustaches.
The World Beard and Moustache Association, first organised in 1990, is the governing body and hosted the first event, in Holten, Germany.
Since 2001, it has been held every-two-years in places such as Brighton, England; Anchorage, Alaska; Trondheim, Norway; Stuttgart, Germany; Leogang, Austria, and in 2017, Austin, Texas.
There are three brackets of facial hair under consideration in competition: moustache, partial beard and full beard, and each has several categories for judges to score.
Meanwhile, researchers at Switzerland's Hirslanden Clinic say they have found more bacteria generally in the beards of men than on the fur of dogs.
The study, according Ghanacelebrities.com, compared strands of bacteria found in men’s facial hair to that taken from the fur of dogs.
The study was conducted on 18 men, an admittedly small sample, and 30 breeds of dogs and was designed to find out if men could pick up bacteria from dogs if they used the same MRI at a veterinarian.
