The Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has charged the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, to court for tax evasion.
YEN.com.gh understands that the lawmaker has also been charged with dealing in foreign currency without a license.
Per a Graphic.com.gh report, he transferred the money to an agent in Dubai, without a requisite license, when he purchased the car.
He has again been charged with abuse of his office as a public officer for personal gain. The charge of fraudulent evasion of taxes is as a result of payment of duty on three Toyota Landcruiser vehicles of GHC6000, instead of GHC36000.
Amidu revealed that Ayariga sold the three vehicles, which were purchased with a loan from Parliament to one Kendrick Akwasi Marfo of Atlas Rent A Car. The case was filed in court on March March 27, 2019.
