Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have been banned indefinitely by Charterhouse but it is hard to not see that the winner in all of this fracas is Shatta Wale.
At the press conference promised by Charterhouse on the fateful night of the 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), the organisers proceeded to ban indefinitely Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale from future VGMAs.
The pair have also been instructed to return the plaques of the awards they won on the night. As regretful as this is, Shatta Wale is the winner in this fracas.
YEN.com.gh is not making the case that Shatta Wale wanted to cause a situation that would force him to return his awards. We are saying that he will be the one who does not mind at all, what has happened to the pair.
Here are some reasons why:
1. Shatta Wale has always hated that Stonebwoy is perceived as humble
It may be a weird obsession but the self-acclaimed dancehall king does not like that most Ghanaians, at least before May 20, 2019, thought Stonebwoy was a gentle and humble man.
Indeed Shatta Wale has made several pubic comments as to this and in the aftermath of the awards night, tweeted that he has succeeded in bringing out the evil in Stonebwoy.
2. Shatta Wale is the one who claims to never like awards
Shatta Wale has always claimed that he does not mind if he is not given any awards whatsoever. It would be interesting to know how many actually believe him when he says that.
But giving him the benefit of the doubt, Charterhouse’s decision to demand back their awards should not worry Shatta Wale at all.
3. Stonebwoy has now lost an avenue for awards
For five straight years, Charterhouse have awarded Ghana's Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year nod to Stonebwoy. In the last decade, he has become a fixture at the VGMA.
Shatta Wale has never agreed to the awards Stonebwoy has gotten so what do you think the “Ayoo” singer will be feeling now that Stonebwoy isn’t guaranteed some of Ghana's top music awards?
4. Shatta Wale now has more reason to cast himself as the king of the streets
Stonebwoy pulled a gun in frustration and anger. Shatta Wale was asked back into the VGMA and then kicked out again.
These two things have given fuel for the musician to cast himself as the man who was almost killed (some sort of hero) and the man who stood up to the “big people” (also some sort of hero).
