The Western Regional Police Command has disclosed how Sergeant Augustine Owusu Ansah of Assin Fosu Division was embroiled in a bribery scandal and is currently under police investigations, YEN.com.gh can report.
The Central regional police commander, DCOP Paul Awini, referred the cop to police investigators after a video went viral showing him receiving cash of GH¢2000.00 from suspects he arrested for peddling narcotics.
According to the facts of the case reported by mynewsgh.com, on May 19, 2019, at about 12 midnight, Sgt Owusu Ansah arrested Ibrahim Issaka with two small sachets of powdered substance in white polythene suspected to be Indian hemp from the suspect’s place of abode.
The suspect was detained by the officer at Nyabrem police station under Assin Fosu District.
Between the hours of 7:30 to 8.00 am on May 20, the sergeant met Nana Yaw Ankobea, Richard Sam, Abdul Wahab Yussif and “Element”, who are all suspects, and took GH¢2,100.00 cash with the promise of releasing Ibrahim Issaka.
Subsequently, the sergeant went with Nana Yaw Ankobea in a taxi to Nyabrem police station and released Ibrahim Issaka to him.
The report said Abdul Wahab Yussif made the video as proof to their friends who contributed the amount that was handed over to the Sergeant, but unfortunately got leaked and went viral.
