Forex bureau owner killed as robbers bolt away with GHC 600,000

Emerging details indicate that two armed robbers on a motorbike killed a forex bureau operator at Dawhenya near Tema and made away with an amount of GHC 600,000.

YEN.com.gh has picked up a report via the Daily Guide that a forex bureau operator at Dawhenya was shot dead by armed robbers who ran away with GHC 600,000 he had borrowed from friends.

The report indicate that the gunmen shot the forex bureau operator commonly called Alhaji Osman Jadad, aka Alhaji Sita, and his friend in a car.

Both were rushed to hospital but the forex bureau operator died upon arrival.

Alhaji Sita's friend who was shot in the chest by the assailants, survived the attack. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of the 37 Military Hospital in Accra pending autopsy.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Issah Mohammed Contona, Prampram District Police Commander, told DAILY GUIDE that the deceased received a call from a customer who wanted to change $80,000 into cedis.

According to DSP Contona, the deceased quickly contacted some friends, including a casino operator, who arranged for the cedi equivalent of dollars for him.

He said the supposed customer asked the deceased to meet him at Dawhenya with the money, adding that Alhaji Sita and three persons, who helped mobilize the money for him were ambushed on their way to the town.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Chereponi, Samuel Abdulai Jabanyite, had to cover his face with a handkerchief to hold back tears, after watching a Joy News documentary on the prolonged conflict in the North-East region.

The MP had watched several residents tell their stories of their limited options following another round of bloodshed that left two dead.

Watching the remains of her torched mud home, one woman said every single property her family had gathered have been burnt down including a mattress, roof and a bunch of cassava, which is her last hope of a decent meal.
