- Cristiano Ronaldo beats rival Lionel Messi to claim the Champions League goal of the season
- Messi emerged second with his free-kick goal during Barcelona v Liverpool– semi-final first leg clash
- UEFA, recently listed the top ten goals from the 2018-19 Champions League season
Cristiano Ronaldo has toppled rival and Barcelona star Lionel Messi to Champions League goal of the season.
Europe’s football arbiters, UEFA, recently revealed the top ten goals from the 2018-19 Champions League season, with Ronaldo’s stunner against United in Turin emerging tops despite Messi’s top class free-kick goal against Liverpool during the semi-final first leg at the Camp Nou behind.
Interestingly, despite winning their respective leagues, Messi and Ronaldo missed out winning the Champions League this campaign.
At the count, Messi netted 51 times in 50 games across all competition, but it proved insufficient to guide Barcelona to another Champions League triumph.
The La Liga champions surprisingly crashed out of the tournament in the semi-final stage against Liverpool after winning the first leg in Camp Nou.
At the end, the Argentine playmaker emerged the competition’s top scorer with 12 goals even though Barcelona failed to a Champions League glory.
On the other hand, Ronaldo also could not inspire Juventus to their first Champions League crown since 1996, with the Italian giants sent packing by Ajax in the quarter-finals.
Ronaldo, who netted in both quarter-final fixtures, finished the campaign with six goals.
Recently, UEFA confirm the top ten goals netted during this season’s Champions League in their website.
