Ex-president J.J Rawlings jabs Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim over the demolishing of his hotel

Ghana's former president Jerry John Rawlings has slammed CEO of Dara Salaam Group Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim for claiming to have forgiven him over his hotel demolishing.

Jerry John Rawlings has fumed over Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim's claim that he has forgiven him for demolishing his hotel decades ago.

According to the out-spoken statesman, he has no regrets demolishing the hotel since it was in his rightful place to do so.

In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, Rawlings expressed his disappointment at the CEO of Dara Salaam Group for supposedly forgiving him.

Mr Rawlings said the property was built on a waterway and that if given the opportunity, he would even clear other structures along with the hotel which he demolished at the time.

He jabbed Alhaji Ibrahim and other top personalities as he said "Big people, however, seem to be above the law and are untouchable."

"If time were reversible, I would do it again and again and I will take along their new gargantuan structures in the waterways," he added.

Rawlings who was speaking at this year's June 4 commemoration at Nungua slammed powerful politicians.

Addressing the patrons of the event, Rawlings claimed that Alhaji Yusif had no reason to forgive him or anyone relating to the incident.

He noted that God has nothing to do with unlawful structures; neither did he have anything to do with enforcing the law.

He slammed successive governments as he stated that governments appear to exercise no restraint when it comes to breaking down poor people’s structures in waterways or unauthorised areas.

Rawlings' comments followed what Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim said when he came on the Good Evening Ghana Show to launch his book.

Alhaji Ibrahim said that he has long forgiven former President Rawlings under whose administration his hotel was demolished.
