- NDC has reacted to the issue of an arrest warrant for its national chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo
- It called on the CID to treat Ofosu Ampofo with dignity and respect
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has admonished the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to treat its national chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, with respect.
This comes after an arrest warrant was issued for Ofosu Ampofo’s arrest in relation to controversy surrounding a leaked tape.
The warrant was issued after Ofosu Ampofo refused to honour an invitation by the CID to assist with investigations into reports of kidnappings and arson.
YEN.com.gh understands that a suspect in police custody accused Ofosu Ampofo of being behind the crimes.
A report by Myjoyonline.com has revealed that the NDC stated it takes a very serious view of the government’s alleged intent to link its chairman to the crimes.
For that reason, its statement went on, the party expects the CID to treat him with respect in the course of the investigations.
The NDC added that Ofosu Ampofo is a law-abiding citizen who would never flout a properly obtained court order.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that investigations had linked Ofosu Ampofo to the reports of kidnappings and fire outbreaks in some parts of Ghana.
NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama, however, called on Ghanaians to disregard the alleged tape, as there was no truth in the allegations.
