1 Village,1 Dam: Gov’t claims it never promised Akosombo-like dams

The minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has reacted to concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with respect to the 1 Village, 1 Dam policy.

He described as false, assertions that the reality on the ground is very different from what the government promised as part of its campaign messages.

Nkrumah added that the NDC is engaged in its usual propaganda and should therefore not be taken seriously.

His comments come after the NDC stated that it has realized some structures being constructed in some villages in northern Ghana were actually dugouts and not dams.

He argued, per a 3news.com report, that the government is delivering exactly what it promised it would deliver, and in some cases, exactly what the people in the target communities requested for.

“The model and specification of dams requested for under this programme are the exact type known to the people in the beneficiary communities,” he reiterated.

Nkrumah however conceded that there a few challenges with some of the dams, but that would not cause already made plans to change.
