The chairman of the Ghana Beyond Aid Committee, Yaw Osafo Maafo, has stated that Ghana still needs aid.
He explained that the fact that Ghana is pursuing a status that helps it do away with aid does not mean it currently does not need aid.
In that regard, he went on to say that some people have become fond of misconstruing the meaning of government’s Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.
Per a 3news.com.gh report, he added that some development partners are behind the plan to discredit the government.
“Some development partners have misinterpreted it to mean Ghana does not require aid but that is not it”, he said on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, during a development partners’ forum on the document.
He went on to say the document development for the plan is a guide to Ghana to an irreversible pathway of progress and prosperity.
Osafo Maafo revealed that Ghana might still require support from development partners, except that, with the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda, the country now decides the nature of the aid, which will better serve Ghana’s needs.
He indicated the Ghana Beyond Aid policy document, though launched by President Akufo-Addo on May 1, 2019, is still a work in progress, which has been reviewed by cabinet, Council of State and “now development partners”.
Present at the meeting were partners from the USA, Israel, Italy, Germany, Denmark and Brazil.
