Actor John Dumelo urges government to consider setting up ganja farm

Ghanaian actor and entrepreneur, John Dumelo, has waded into the controversial issue of legalizing marijuana, popularly known as 'wee', on the back of its economic benefits for the country.

Notable Ghanaian actor and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist, John Dumelo, has advised he Ghanaian government to consider marijuana business to generate more revenue for the country.

The actor and farmer took to his Twitter handle to highlight his observations regarding countries and religious institutions that are cashing in on the ganja trade.

John Dumelo suggested that if the government has no intention of legalizing it, at least it can take it up and set up farms for only export reasons and not for local consumption.

“A lot of countries and even religious institutions are cashing in on the Marijuana trade. Here’s my take. The Ghana government can look into setting up the farm. The marijuana will be solely for export, no local consumption,” Dumelo’s Twitter post stated.

Another feed on his Twitter handle suggested that Ghana can cash in on the billions of dollars generated from ‘wee’ business and use that for infrastructure and paying of salaries.

He indicated that the country has the capacity to generate the needed revenue, which could only be done by trading and not talking.

“That way Ghana can cash in on the billions of dollars. We need revenue for infrastructure, paying of salaries etc. We have all it takes to generate that. Let’s stop talking and start trading.”

He joins celebrities like EIB’s KOD, who for some time now has been posting on his Facebook page about the value of marijuana trade and its legalization.
