With almost no help coming in from the appropriate authority, pupils of Banaso Presby School in the Western North region, have taken their fate into their own hands by moulding blocks with mud to construct their school.
At Banaso, a farming community near Enchi in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North region, school children of Banaso Presby School have been photographed moulding blocks with mud to construct their own classroom despite the government's claim in making provision for quality education in Ghana.
In a photo that has gained traction on social media, pupils are seen moulding blocks to build their school.
The headmaster of the school, Ali Asumana, according to the Ghana guardian reports, confirmed the story and said: "lack of proper infrastructure has been the school's major problem over the years."
He said teachers being posted to the school reject posting due to the situation.
According to him, KG 1 and 2, Primary 1 to 6 and JHS 1 to 3, are currently operating with only 9 teachers.
The headmaster also disclosed that lack of water, toilet facility, poor road network and the absence of computers for teaching are some of the major challenges the school faces.
"I have been here for 8 years now. With this situation, teachers refuse to accept posting here. Some teachers came but after 1 or 2 years, they left," Asumana stated.
