The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for the resignation of the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah, following claims of the manhandling of journalists from ModernGhana by operatives of the National Security.
According to the party, it is a shame that Akufo-Addo is presiding over 'barbaric attacks' on press freedom and extreme human right violations.
The NDC however expressed its deepest concern over the deteriorating press freedom under President Akufo-Addo.
The NDC also raised concerns over the deafening silence of the president on this and similar acts.
“The NDC hereby calls on Albert Kan Dapaah to immediately resign as National Security Minister or be suspended by the President, to allow for a full-scale investigation into allegations of torture of the journalists. We submit that all those found culpable must be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the National Security Council Secretariat has denied reports making rounds in the media by a deputy editor of online news portal MordernGhana.com, Emmanuel Ajarfor Abugri, claiming that he was tortured and manhandled during his interrogation.
The National Security minister however stressed that it was a deliberate attempt by the suspects to discredit the investigations..
In a statement, the Secretariat explained that the allegations were false.
“Torture and manhandling of suspects are not part and parcel of the culture and architecture of the secretariat under the administration of President Akufo-Addo,” the statement said.
