Lady faces 20 years in jail for licking top of ice cream and running away

A short video went viral in the course of the last week of June 2019 of a young lady who licked the top of ice cream in a store and quickly put it back and bolted. Now, the police have caught up with her and she could be imprisoned for 20 years.

A video of a young woman licking ice cream out of a bowl after which she placed back in the store's freezer went viral in June, 2019, triggering anger from the internet community.

In the video, the woman, name unknown, can be seen dragging her tongue on the heap of ice cream in a container.

The incident reportedly happened at a Texas Walmart while a friend filming is heard encouraging her to “lick it, lick it”.

Now, NBC News is reporting that the lady in question has been identified.

After licking across the top of the ice cream, she covered the container as if it was good as new.

The video was clearly shared online for social media clout but it appears she attracted just the opposite reaction.

Police believe they have identified the young woman after “detectives obtained surveillance video placing a woman matching the suspect's description in the Lufkin store on June 28 around 11 p.m.”

Authorities are waiting to make sure of her identity before issuing a warrant for her arrest. A search is also ongoing for the friend who recorded the video

The Lufkin police department confirmed to NBC news the charge comes with a 2 to 20-year prison sentence and up to $10,000 or about GHC 53,000 in fines.

After the video went viral, the creamery released a statement addressing the incident.

They informed customers that the behaviour “will not be tolerated”.

As a safety precaution, all containers of the ice cream have reportedly been removed from the store’s shelves, the company said.
